Originally by: Ishma Nelass I hope to god that these will never be implemented... it would kill the salvaging profession.
Just imagine, a dedicated salvager has no use for long range tractors, as such a ship flies faster than 500ms anyway, and doesn't have the powergrid to fit them in all likelyhood. However, the bigger, slower, combat ships will then easily be able to salvage at least the choicest wrecks on the battlefield, meaning that salvage prices will fall and job opportunities for salvagers will dry up...
I bet you are one of those people that show up before people have a chance to salvage their own loot. Don't get me wrong i'm not for a flagging system for wrecks, agressive salvaging is one of those things that makes EVE the great community games it is - with all types of ppl. But i would not agree on denying a ratter the means to loot and salvage with greater ease just for the benefit of your variation of 'the salvaging profession'. My vote is on introducing the med and large tractor as is probably intended.
No flame intended, just some insistant fundamental disagreement. ---

You're missing the point i'm trying to make. Tractor beams are not only for salvage and salvaging is not only for 500 m/s destroyers. If i pop and officer spawn in a <100 m/s BS ranged at 120 km i would be very happy to have an 80km beam. In fact i'd already be delighted if it pulled at 250m/s!
No you didn't earn that ninja looting comment, but i just get a bit tired of people saying things are not welcome just because they don't need it. ---

You are afraid that large tractors will hurt dedicated salvaging as BS pilots will start salvaging for themselves. I don't see how a BS sparing a single slot for a loot beam could ever compete with a professional salvager in a destroyer with all its highs filled with beams and salvagers. The large beam would be a convenience for PVE pilots, that's all the effect it will have. Also, a PVE pilot who is interested in his salvage will fly home and switch to a salvage ship himself. You wouldn't be losing much business from people using that beam. ---
